What is “evo”? Bringing evo's Dynamic Story to Life Through Animation

At We Are Unicorns, our passion lies in storytelling through design. So when evo approached us to create an animation that conveys the essence of their unique ecosystem of brand and their business, we knew it would be a project that brought their vision to life in new ways. evo is more than a retailer—it’s a brand rooted in outdoor culture, community, and experiences. Our goal was to transform that rich narrative into a concise and impactful animation.

The Project Brief: evo's Mission in Motion

evo has built an intricate ecosystem, combining retail, hospitality, recreation, and community-focused initiatives, and they needed a clear way to communicate this to customers. Our challenge was to encapsulate evo's multifaceted brand story—its mission, services, and future vision—into a video that’s as dynamic as the brand itself.

Simplifying Complexity Through Visual Storytelling

To streamline evo’s layered story, we centered the animation around their primary brand elements: retail, experiential travel, and community hubs. Each element is portrayed visually, creating a journey for the viewer that mirrors the evo experience. For example, rather than just listing out evo’s offerings, we used pictures and video from over the years that highlight their retail and all-in-one campus locations and evoTrip adventures to show evo as a gateway to a lifestyle, not just a store.

Creating a Seamless Ecosystem

One key focus of our animation process was to visually link evo’s diverse branches—retail stores, skateparks, guided trips, and campus-style locations—into a seamless ecosystem. We used smooth transitions and a cohesive color palette to guide viewers through evo’s world, allowing them to see the connectivity and flow between each evo service. Our animation doesn’t just inform; it gives the viewer an experience, a taste of the evo lifestyle.

Emphasizing Community Impact

evo’s commitment to community runs deep, and they wanted this to come through in the animation. We highlighted their All Together Skateparks and La Familia program as central to evo's ethos, visually illustrating these initiatives with relatable and community-driven scenes. The result: evo’s philanthropic goals are front and center, making their dedication to inclusivity and youth outreach unmistakable.

Forward-Thinking and Future-Ready

Finally, evo’s vision for the future—a mix of new campus locations, expanded travel offerings, and additional community investments—was vital to capture. We concluded the animation with a forward-looking perspective, showcasing evo’s upcoming hotel locations and future goals to convey the brand’s long-term mission in the outdoor industry.

Our team loved working on this project, it was especially a special one for Founder, Molly Hawkins since she spent so much time in the early days of evo helping build the brand and business. Seeing evo’s story come to life in a way that’s engaging, purposeful, and visually compelling. This animation will now help evo introduce its brand’s depth to new audiences in a way that those who have spent time at evo get to know and feel from being in it, showing not just what evo offers but how each aspect of its ecosystem connects to deliver one unified experience.
